I've been following your threads on this and I must say its turned out pretty good so far! I guess only time will tell if he eventually wishes to turn his back on the organisation, but his talking to you has certainly given him food for thought on it. Well done you!

FREEDOMLOVER: update with my dad
by freedomlover inhope you are all well.. if you have been following the soap-opera of my life and the letter i wrote my dad then you may be interested in the latest.. my dad has been here visiting and we had a good long talk yesterday about my letter and what has brought me to the decision to leave the org.
he listened to everything i had to say and agreed with everything i had to say.
his own doubts arose when he became an elder and got a clearer picture of the abusive tactics that are used on the sheep.

I left before I looked on the internet, in fact for a good while after I still felt bad to look at sites like this. I felt there was little love and the congregations were full of politics, with Pharasaical rules imposed on the followers, in the end all the guilt loaded on me made me unhappy and I couldnt see myself attaining paradise.

Anyone seen "The Island"
by onesong in.
it may have already been talked about here but i just saw it last night with some other "apostate" friends.. wasn't it amazing in it's similarity to the borg.. my favorite scene was everyone reading together "dick and jane" talk about a great watchtower study depiction!

I was once on a bible study, and the gentleman put across many good points - suffice it to say he never joined . Anyhow he asked a similar question of us, so I went away and found the WTS answer was continental ridges! Basically paths connecting up the continents, so the respective animals simply walked to any of the continents. I remember at the time thinking what a lame answer, but was no where near opening my mind at that time.

Found some older WTS publications!
by cyberdyne systems 101 ini was going through some old boxes in my attic and found some older wts publications, mainly spanning late 60's to 90's, but among those was a couple from the 40's and 50's, but the real scoop was the book 'riches' by none other than jf rutherford!
i'm hoping to witness first hand some of the witnesses flip flops on doctrine.. does anyone know if there is anything significant in this book that i should look out for when reading it?.

Just found a section dealing with 'the higher powers' of Romans 13:1-3, saying they are Jehovah God and Jesus

Elsewhere, very interesting to look at the scans, i shall certainly look out for that issue. One nugget I have come across already by speed reading is the date of 606 B.C.

The first time I heard something that could have been a chance to learn the truth was when a teacher asked me when the Witnesses started. I replied (what an idiot I was) that we had been around since the 1st century christians. I had reasoned in my mind that we were true christians and that the parable of the wheat and weeds meant that from the 1st century down to the late 70's (this was when she asked me) there had always been such true christians. She later showed me a book showing that CT Russell formed the bible students which became JW's. I was shocked but just left it there and didnt pursue itMuch later on I looked back and realised there was no such 'connection' between CT Russell and other annointed followers of Christ. He basically just appeared and using some doctrine's we now know he borrowed started a new faith. I only recalled her question as I was contemplating all the lies I had been told.

beards not a rule but!!!
by frogit inhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4666132.stm .
this caught my eyes and reminded me when as a ministerial servant that we had to go into the back room for instructions from the po (not very clever man), he tried his best to explain to us ms and elders about the wearing of beards in the congregation.
he must have gone on and on for 30 minutes about not having beards, but kept impressing that this was not a rule, but beards should not be worn, but its not a rule, just dont expect to have any privileges if you grow one on your face and wear it (sounds like you wear it like a tie he he) but we are not making it a rule, just dont wear a beard.

Will DA'ing myself be better for my children's future?
by indoubt inbackground
i have been fading away, and considered fully "inactive" for over 2 years now.
my wife is still a very active jw, and she brings my 2 children (5 & 3) to the meetings and service on a regular basis.

My own situation is that I am D'fd and separated from my wife. I basically talk to my children about the Bible, using that as a more neutral view point. I have read scriptures such as Heb 11 and where at verse 16 it says a place in Heaven, and I ask what they think it means. Of course it looks like these faithful ones are going to Heaven not the Earth as per WTS teachings. This way they can see there is 'interpretation' , there are many verses I simply never saw as a Witness that I have now that I read it without their bias. Do it gently and kindly show them there are different alternatives, something I was isolated from growing up as a witness myself.
